Meet Isa
After 22 years as the Library Media Assistant at the Sylvan Union School District, Isa carried her love for books into her retirement. The love of books endures no matter how the world evolves. Books are her faithful companions. In moments of solitude, they offer solace. When life’s uncertainties loom, a well-loved story can feel like a refuge, its familiar lines wrapping around the reader like a favorite scarf. Friends of the Modesto Library became her outlet to share that desire to encourage others to read—a gift which is a way of opening doors and planting seeds that may one day blossom into lifelong passions. Our hands reach for books not only because they educate or entertain, but because they touch something essential within us. The love for books is enduring, transformative, and utterly human—a celebration of the written word and the infinite worlds it contains. Isa is glad she joined an organization that works to promote literacy and access to books. She’s found volunteering with FOML to be a rewarding way to contribute to the community in retirement.
