In our January class we’ll offer one-on-one help with either knitting or crochet. For those who are ready and interested, we can show you how to make hearts for Valentines Day. A heart crocheted in cotton thread is pictured below. The pattern is available either with pictures or without. Our group, Yarning with Friends, is made up of Friends of the Modesto Library members who make art with yarn and install it in and around the library. Our first class for beginners, on Oct. 11, went well, so we’re now offering monthly classes. Returning students, please join us on the first Monday of every month and continue learning in our free classes. Missed the first classes? Don’t worry. If you’re a beginner, or someone who needs their skills refreshed, just start attending as soon as possible. We’ll get you caught up in no time!
We’ll show you the basics of knit or crochet so you can soon make a small project for yourself or donate to the projects Yarning with Friends makes for the Modesto Library throughout the year (like the yarn-bombed chairs pictured).
Even if you need no help, these Monday nights will be a nice time to just sit and stitch with friends. Maybe you can even help a newby improve their skills.

This class will take place in the maker space on the main floor of the Modesto Library.
- 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm
This is a continuation of our group’s first knit and crochet classes. There is:
- No cost
- No commitment to continue attending classes (but we hope you’ll want to!)
- No commitment to work on any Yarning with Friends projects
Our plan is to offer group instruction in knitting one month and crochet on alternate months. Each class will have (1) an area for group instruction (crochet on Dec. 6), (2) an area for one-on-one help with the skill not being taught (knitting on Dec. 6), and (3) an area for people working on the current Yarning with Friends project.
You’ll need a few supplies. If possible, bring knitting needles (medium size, straight or circular), a crochet hook (medium size), scissors, ruler or tape measure and a small amount of worsted weight yarn.
